From the late 2010s to the 2020s, New Balance relaunched a host of its heritage mesh runners from the Y2K era. Alongside these, the brand designed novel silhouettes infused with compelling retro aesthetics, one of which is the New Balance 2010 – a contemporary sneaker with classy throwback vibes.

The upper of the 2010 takes its inspirations from New Balance icons like the 2002, 1906 and 99X models. Its knitted mesh underlayer features broad, diamond-shaped openings for cooling ventilation, while curving layers of luxurious nubuck and synthetic leather panels bring structure over the top. An additional forefoot overlay protects the toes and traditional lacing secures the shoe over a half-mesh, half-synthetic leather tongue, while reflective accents add a practical touch.

The New Balance 2010 also incorporates a bulked-up midsole comprising various moulded segments of superior ABZORB foam, with ABZORB SBS cushioning in the forefoot and heel. This provides excellent levels of shock absorption and comfort to support the wearer throughout the day. A translucent Stability Web subtly delivers strengthening rigidity to aid balance through the midfoot, while the durable rubber outsole derives its tread patterns from some of the brand’s most reliable running shoes, making it extra grippy.

With such iconic inspirations, the 2010 has a captivating Y2K aesthetic, and yet it also manages to establish its own distinctive modern style. Its triangular tongue and heel tabs display refined branding, while the signature N logos feature a textured design that gives them a unique character. The standout element of the sneaker is its bold sole unit, whose prominent stature and elegant contouring embody both power and grace.

Ahead of its spring 2025 release, two New Balance 2010 collaborations were teased, each with tried-and-tested partners. One involving American lifestyle label Kith consists of two colourways with old-school pastel tones upon a black background, while the other is with American sports agent Rich Paul. Famous for managing NBA legend LeBron James, Paul donned a vibrant pink pair of the 2010 while watching his client lead the Lakers to victory over the Mavericks on 25th February, 2025, generating a buzz around the new silhouette. All of this hype sparked tremendous excitement for the upcoming ‘Dockside’ colourway, which launched in May 2025.
