V5 RNR
In the early 2020s, Nike released a series of high-quality lifestyle sneakers based on the performance running shoes that were popular around the turn of the millennium. Back then, they had been primarily seen as athletic models, but twenty years later, they fit neatly into the retro-runner trend. Silhouettes like the Vomero 5 and the V2K Run were well-received during this time, so in 2025, Nike produced another stylish Y2K-inspired sneaker, the V5 RNR.
Clearly influenced by such prior models, the Nike V5 RNR features a mesh upper with layers of synthetic leather panels over the top. These overlays add depth to the design, while their curved edges present various oval-shaped openings to the mesh beneath, allowing ventilation to reach the foot. A tighter mesh brings contrast to the midfoot, where it reveals a captivating grid pattern underneath.
The midsole of the V5 RNR is made entirely out of supportive foam for classic comfort from heel to toe, while the rubber outsole delivers reliable traction via its Waffle-style grip pads. It also facilitates easy movement through its flex grooves, which continue up around the sides of the midsole and visually connect to the arrangement of the overlays on the upper, giving the shoe a cohesive feel.
Distinctive branding appears across the V5 RNR, with Nike text embroidered into the generously padded tongue and a diminutive swoosh woven into the cushioned tab on the heel. Another swoosh appears in the middle of the outsole, but it is the sidewall logos that really stand out. Crafted from a glossy material, these swooshes have a bold outline that gives them a powerful visual boost. They also rise up into a ridge through the centre, creating a sleek 3D effect.
The three launch colourways comprise a stealthy all-black design and two sneakers covered in a blend of white and metallic silver tones, one with lush green highlights, the other featuring rich gold accents. These striking colour schemes produce a classic retro-futurist look that evokes 2000s-era styling.
Released in the spring of 2025, the Nike V5 RNR is a broadly accessible shoe that can be enjoyed by everyone. As a modern lifestyle sneaker, it has taken the best in comfort and performance from its contemporaries, with a stylish Y2K aesthetic completing its heritage appeal.
