Los Angeles streetwear brand Undefeated has worked on some of Nike’s most iconic silhouettes since their first collaboration in the early 2000s. In 2023, this long-term partnership turned its attention to Nike’s late 90s trail running shoe, the Air Terra Humara. This vintage silhouette was carefully chosen by Undefeated as a nod to the brand’s beginnings as a sneaker boutique. At that time, its founders, Eddie Cruz and James Bond, were focused on giving Undefeated a strong identity. To do so, they stocked a carefully curated selection of shoes which included models that wouldn’t normally be seen in a sneaker store. One of these was the Terra Humara, which went from being a model made for outdoor activities to a beloved lifestyle sneaker. The Undefeated x Nike collaborative colourways paid homage to this by emulating some of the features and materials used on the Terra Humaras that could be found in the brand’s original Los Angeles store.
This Nike Air Terra Humara x Undefeated sneaker features a sleek black aesthetic and is highlighted with a collection of unique branding effects that honour the collaborative efforts of both brands. Flecks of Coconut Milk have been scattered across the rugged outsole, while further splashes of this velvety off-white tone appear on the upper’s swoosh logos. Textured rubber panelling based on a motorcycle tyre protects against abrasions while also providing a captivating aesthetic. Undefeated then establishes a strong presence on the design via Coconut Milk Five Strikes logos, a bright blue tag with UNDFTD text and the brand’s famous Play Dirty logo. All of this comes alongside various premium materials ranging from smooth nubuck to luxurious suede, which make this bold Terra Humara a highly desirable shoe.
Created by innovative designer and out-of-the-box thinker Peter Fogg in 1997, the Air Humara was originally made as a technically proficient trail running shoe for use in difficult terrain and harsh weather. Today, it is experiencing a stunning renaissance as a sporty lifestyle model with a strong aesthetic that delivers high levels of comfort whatever the conditions.
Zoom Air: Pocket of pressurised air with tensile fibres has been placed in the forefoot to provide responsive support and effective shock absorption.
Air: Encapsulated Nike Air in the rear of the midsole offers soft, bouncy cushioning to the heel.
Leather: High-quality synthetic panelling brings durability.
Mesh: Mesh underlayer adds both flexibility and breathability.
Rubber: Rubber overlays protect the upper while also bringing textural variation.
Broad mesh placed over a flexible base layer.
Rubber panel on the toe protects the forefoot against scratches and abrasions.
Mudguards on the flanks and the heel stop dirt splashing up onto the upper.
Three-piece overlays form an arch over each flank.
T-shaped overlay on the forefoot and diagonal panelling on the heel feature reflective materials.
Short leather swoosh sits on the back half of each sidewall.
Webbed lacing system incorporates bands of textile that criss-cross over each flank, passing beneath the sidewall overlays and forming loops for the thick, sturdy laces to thread through.
Additional textile bands on the heel and tongue each form a pull tab at the top to facilitate easy on and off.
Textile band on the tongue has loops down its centre to hold the laces securely in place.
Oval-shaped tabs adorn the tongue and heel, the former with a thickly embroidered edge as well as Air text and a swoosh woven into it, the latter with simple swoosh embroidery in its centre.
Small swoosh embroidered onto the forefoot overlay and Air lettering woven through the lateral heel display finely crafted style.
Stitching on the sidewall and heel overlays marks where textile bands pass under them.
